Verosol blinds making an impression at landmark Brisbane hotel

Specified at the Calile Hotel, Verosol Veromax internal roller blinds have helped create an urban resort in the heart of Brisbane.

The Building

Located centrally, on the corner of James and Doggett Streets in Fortitude Valley, the Calile Hotel has established itself as the place to stay and play in Brisbane.

Completed in 2018, the establishment was built by Hutchinson and designed by local practice Richards & Spence. Significantly, during the earliest stages of the project, the architects kept the sub-tropical Brisbane climate at front of mind. In this way, rather than looking to Paris, New York or Melbourne – locations with far more temperate climates – they turned to cities like Miami, Mexico City, and Rio De Janeiro for inspiration.

The Requirement

In so doing, they achieved something extraordinary. They created an urban resort just over 2km from the Brisbane CBD. Now part of the Fortitude Valley landscape, the new facility – with its stunning podium-level pool area, airy rooms and corridors, and lovely balconies – appears set for a long future as a Brisbane destination of choice.

As per the architects’ wishes, and in line with their ‘urban resort’ ambition, the building relies heavily on natural ventilation. The inclusion of effective blinds was a critical factor in bringing this to fruition. Without them, the tasks of Privacy and maintaining thermal efficiency would have not been possible.

The Solution

Verosol Veromax internal roller blinds, 250 of them in total, can be found in all the hotel’s guestrooms. Featuring the striking Privado block out fabric, a polyester material with a soft, textured  appearance, the blinds have proven themselves a perfect fit.

The blinds are fully automated and operate according to the movement of those within. When guests leave their rooms, the lights and air conditioning adjust to sleep mode, the blinds lower, and  energy consumption is kept to a minimum.

No expense was spared when installing the Veromax blinds. For example, they feature placement detection functionality, which means that in cases where objects (suitcases, bags, etc.) are accidently left obstructing the blinds’ normal operation they simply move as far as they can and stop, rather than completely retracting.
